Hi, I’m Mei, the founder of Modern Taoist and the creator behind the social media accounts.

Born and raised in southern China, I came to Paris in my early twenties for an exchange and ended up staying for more than a decade. My 20s were filled with adventures, laughter, tears, confusion, connection, and heartbreak, just like everyone else’s.

Living in a foreign land taught me how to swim between cultures and shift between mindsets. I built a wide network of friends from all over the world, yet I often struggled with love. In those years, I found myself caught in painful cycles: sometimes hurting others unconsciously, sometimes being deeply hurt myself.

At 26, I started my own business, working frequently between Europe and Asia. During that time, I noticed that many successful Chinese entrepreneurs were deeply connected to Taoist wisdom, understanding the Five Elements, Feng Shui, and the flow of energy. That was the first time I began exploring Tao in a meaningful way.

Entrepreneurship is at the same time exciting and challenging. It forced me to face my desires, flaws, and problems. I have to upgrade my way of thinking almost every day.

But still, I wasn’t happy.

At 28, I decided to travel the world as a digital nomad, living across 10 countries over 10 months to discover myself. When I finally returned to my parents’ home in China after this long trip, I felt an unexpected loneliness and irritation. That’s when I realized it was time to face my inner traumas and I turned to psychology.

That year, I cried almost every day. My parents, especially my mother, couldn’t understand why their “sweet” daughter suddenly felt unloved. I realized I had always treated myself as a tool instead of a human being. The healing process was like pulling out the hair clogging a drain, the smell is awful, but the water finally flows again. This awakening process lasted nearly two years. Painful, yet liberating - I felt reborn. No longer drowning in a dark ocean, but finally on a boat with light and direction. When I found peace with my parents, my father suddenly passed away.

His sudden death transformed me deeply. In my grief, I understood that I was no longer just my parents’ daughter. I was born with my own purpose and direction. His departure brought me even closer to the Tao, and I began to understand its teachings in a completely new way.

Today, I continue to study the Tao, psychology, philosophy, and manifestation. My life has changed tremendously. I still face challenges, but I now recognize my patterns, find peace within them, and live with deep gratitude.

I am blessed to share my life with a loving partner and to see my business evolving in the right direction.

I created Modern Taoist as a living journey, a space to share what I learn every day, and to invite you to walk this path of awareness, balance, and peace with me.

From Paris, with love,
Mei
